Losing a child is a grief like no other. Not being able to visit your child’s final resting place makes the grief all the more complex.
The Living Wish Foundation received a call from a long-term care home in Barrie. One of their residents lost her adult daughter a little over a year ago. Due to her health challenges, Sandra was unable to attend the final resting place of her beloved daughter, Sharon.
A few calls were made, a date was picked, and a plan was set. RNR Patient Transfer kindly donated their services for the day, and The Living Wish Foundation secured two of their most compassionate volunteers to attend, one a PSW, one a retired nurse. We needed to ensure we were fully prepared to ensure a safe and dignified trip for Sandra.
Luckily Sandra did not travel alone. She was surrounded by family. The plan was to travel from Barrie to Waterloo, and have a picnic at the gravesite, surrounded by loved ones.
When the day arrived, after multiple days of rain, the sun came out. When Sandra sat by her daughter’s grave, surrounded by family, the sun shone down warming her skin, providing her a sense of peace.
